Being able to recreate whatever is in the imagination is surely the goal of any musician. This can only be achieved by learning to hear and recognise Interval, Chords and Phrases..
What we are talking about is  Relative Pitch. The ability to hear intervals between notes and understand how a chord or melodic line is moving.
